At the time of Pallotti there were 54 parishes in Rome. Saint Vincent Pallotti was never directly involved in parish pastoral work. His activity as Rector of the church of Spirito Santo dei Napoletani and, later, of San Salvatore in Onda embraced rather the entire city. In the General Archives are to be found 38 positive written opinions of Roman parish priests approving the work of the Catholic Apostolate of Pallotti.For Christian life, parishes have always had a role similar to that in our times. They were always places where the faithful could come to know the message of the Gospel, receive the sacraments and experience the communion of the Church. The novelty of the Pallottine charism consisted in its strong emphasis that all the baptised were responsible for the apostolate. Presently Pallottine priests and brothers are involved in pastoral work in nearly 400 parishes.
